Enhanced Financial Capacity Homeownership Initiative (Homeownership Capacity)

Homeownership Capacity provides financial support to eligible nonprofit and government organizations that provide intensive financial empowerment and homeownership training to households of color and low-income renters who have the goal of homeownership.


If you are interested in receiving guidance to improve your credit score, develop a spending and/or saving plan, or reduce debt, please contact one of our Homeownership Capacity providers for more information.

2019-2021 Applicants

The Homeownership Capacity application for the 2019-2021 program year is now closed for funding for the full two years. 
If an organization that is not funded is interested in applying for the second half of the Homeownership Capacity 2019 -2021 program year, they must send an email to homeownershipcapacity.mhfa@state.mn.us no later than Monday, February 24, 2020 indicating their interest in applying for the second half of the 2019-2021 program year. Applicants are encouraged to review the Manual and listen to the Homeownership Capacity Program Recorded Presentation below.

Homeownership Education, Counseling and Training Fund (HECAT)

HECAT provides financial support to eligible nonprofit organizations and governmental entities to deliver a variety of homeownership education, counseling and training services to Minnesotans.

HECAT 2019 – 2021 Fund

The HECAT Application for Funding closed on May 21, 2019 for the two-year funding period of October 1, 2019 – September 30, 2021. A new Application for Funding will be available for a full two-year funding period in Spring 2021.
