RentHelpMN COVID-19 Emergency Rental Assistance

RentHelpMN is coming to an end.

RentHelpMN was a federally funded program created as an emergency response to the COVID-19 pandemic. It provided financial support to pay rent and utility expenses to keep Minnesota families housed and prevent evictions.

The program opened on April 20, 2021 and closed to new applications on January 28, 2022. It provided $449 million in assistance to 59,100 households during the course of the program.

Important Dates:

The RentHelpMN Call Center staffed by 211 closed on September 30, 2022. If you have a question about a RentHelpMN payment or documentation, please visit the RentHelpMN website.

Check processing extension - December 1:  If you have an open issue with a RentHelpMN check, such as a missing check or incorrect amount, please submit your inquiry no later than Thursday, December 1, 2022. Contact information to submit your inquiry is on this page.

Resources for Renters:

Additional resources are listed at RentHelpMN and on Minnesota Housing's website. They include:
  • Free legal help for renters is available through HOME Line.
  • Minnesota has a streamlined application for benefits such as cash, food, emergency housing, and childcare assistance.
  • If you are homeless, at risk of homelessness, or don’t have a place you can stay for very long, contact your local Coordinated Entry “front door” for additional resources.
  • Your local county or tribal social service agency can help you connect with other benefits or services, as well as emergency aid.
  • Utility assistance is available through the Energy Assistance Program.
