Minnesota Housing Welcomes New Executive Finance Officer and General Counsel
Maria Steele joins Minnesota Housing as Executive Finance Officer
Maria Steele joined Minnesota Housing on January 14 as our Executive Finance Officer. Steele brings more than 30 years of experience as a financial professional and most recently served as the Chief Financial Officer for the Teachers Retirement Association (TRA). In that role, she oversaw all accounting functions, the Data Integrity Department, and the Administrative Support Department, including employee engagement.
Prior to TRA, Steele was a financial leader for the Second Judicial District, where she served on the Senior Management Team and contributed to strategic objectives through work on the District Change Agent Network and the District Organization Structure Evaluation Committee. Earlier in her career, Steele held accounting roles of increasing responsibility across private organizations and nonprofits. Steele is thrilled to join Minnesota Housing as a member of the Servant Leadership Team.
Jonathan Moler accepts Minnesota Housing General Counsel role
Jonathan Moler, who joined Minnesota Housing as Deputy General Counsel in February 2024, has agreed to become Minnesota Housing's next General Counsel. Moler brings 15 years of experience in practicing law as well as 12 years of experience as an attorney for the State of Minnesota. Before joining Minnesota Housing, Moler spent nearly a decade at the Minnesota Attorney General's Office, where his work ranged from representing the Minnesota Departments of Labor and Industry, Health, Human Rights and Corrections to helping the Attorney General's Office establish its Wage Theft Unit.
In his time as a litigator, Moler has focused on advocating for the vulnerable and people who lack power in the legal system and has argued and won decisions at the Minnesota Supreme Court and in the Eighth Circuit. Prior to beginning his legal career, Moler served as the Editor-in-Chief of the Minnesota Journal of International Law, the Student Director of the University of Minnesota's Immigration and Human Rights Clinic and served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Uganda. Moler is thrilled to join Minnesota Housing's Servant Leadership Team to continue advancing the Agency's important mission.
