Newly Financed Senior Rental Units Dashboard

What does the data tell us?

Since 2021, Minnesota Housing has financed nearly 1,500 rental units for older adults. During Minnesota Housing’s 2024 Multifamily Consolidated Request for Proposal (RFP), the Agency selected rental projects that included 136 units for older adults. In 2022, there were no additional Housing Infrastructure Bond (HIB) dollars available, and HIBs are a primary funding source for housing dedicated to people age 55+. As a result, the Agency did not fund projects with units designated for older adults.

Why does it matter?

Minnesota’s population is aging and as older adults stay in their homes with increasing disabilities their housing demands become more complex. Selecting projects with units designated for older adults in Minnesota Housing’s Multifamily Consolidated RFP increases the affordable rental stock available to these households.

What is measured?

Applicants to Minnesota Housing’s RFP receive selection points if the project includes units designated for people age 55 and older. These points, along with points awarded for other funding priorities, determine which housing proposals get funded. This metric captures the number and percentage of selected units in Minnesota Housing’s RFP designated for people age 55+.
